Christmas Party and meeting notice

Just a reminder, instead of a ‘regular business meeting’ the Rockwood Park Backyard Beekeepers Association will have its annual ChristmasParty this month! If you have not yet joined the club, this would be a great opportunity to do so and meet members in a fun social setting. Membership dues are $15 per family and are good for an entire year.

Date: Monday, December 14, 2015

Time: 6:30 pm

Location: Rockwood Park Nature Center (classroom)

Activities: Food, music, bee products and Reindeer games

Details:

  • Food – Drinks will be provided, but please bring a side dish to share. Please no alcohol.
  • Bee Products: RPBBA members who have ‘Bee Products’ for Sale (cosmetics, soap, candles, etc.) are urged to bring their wares for display and sale. Help other members get some genuine, local beewares for stocking stuffers.
  • Reindeer games – some planned group activities for those who wish to participate, such as:
  • Christmas Sweater Contest; a panel of judges will award prizes for the most unique, interesting, and or tacky Christmas Sweater or T-Shirt
  • Two Truth & A Lie; members who participate tell the group two truths and a lie, then other members have to guess which is which.
  • Prize raffles
  • Yankee Swap Gift Exchange; member, who want to participate, must bring a wrapped ~$10 gift (no labels) and a fun time occurs when the gifts are swapped back and forth. Game rules can be found at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04AjQ4tzZ7c

Member Picnic in August

Hi everyone,

I am very excited to tell you about our August Member Picnic. We are lucky enough to be invited by John Sheehan to use Gregory Pond Fishing Club!!! It is right around the corner from Rockwood park and it is beautiful!!! It will be Aug. 22nd from 4-8ish. Save the date! We will be able to fish, and you do not need a license. We are also hoping to have horse shoes, corn hole, and music! You don’t want to miss this great time, so if you haven’t joined the club yet, remember to do so at the July meeting! And also keep in mind, we don’t have a regular meeting in August. That’s all for now! See you at the Honeybee Festival! Thanks everyone for working so hard on this and helping the day of. You all are awesome!!

Can’t find a mentor? Then join us at the Saturday’s In-the-hive Workshop to ask your questions…build confidence…learn bee care skills and network With other Beekeepers (Ranging from New To Seasoned beekeepers) at this In-the-hive practical beekeeping session. Bring a veil or borrow ours.

Learn:what to look for when inspecting your hive…how to care for a new colonyprepare for summer’s drought…observe brood…drones…earn how to find the queen. And more.
