Beginner Beekeeping

We will meet at the North Chesterfield Library 325 Courthouse Road.
Class will begin at 11:30. Please try to arrive by 11:15 to get oriented and settled before class.

The Rockwood Park Backyard Beekeepers Association (RPBBA) is holding their annual Beginning Beekeeping Course over 4 Saturdays from start of February to middle of March. Attendees will receive instruction on the basics of beekeeping, the various equipment including hive components and tools, diseases and pests, what to expect in the first year, how to purchase and install your bees, sources of pollen and nectar, and (weather permitting) a hands on field day in the club’s apiary. The course includes:

  • 3 Books: The Beekeeper’s Handbook, Beekeeping Basics, and A Field Guide to Honey Bees and Their Maladies.
  • Thumb Drive of Slides from Class
  • Over 20 Hours of Instruction Utilizing the Virginia Beekeepers Teaching Consortium
  • An Afternoon In-Hive Session
  • 1-Year RPBBA Membership
